Mustang GT4 to debut at Race Phillip Island

The Monochrome GT4 Australia will welcome the brand-new Ford Mustang GT4 as part of its season opening round at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

With the Shannons SpeedSeries round celebrating the 60th anniversary of the iconic Mustang, the car will fittingly debut on Australian shores thanks to renowned motorsport figures, Andrew and George Miedecke.

George will pilot the highly anticipated vehicle at the Ford Mustang 60 Years Race Phillip Island alongside rising star Rylan Grey for the series’ two one-hour races, scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday.

Both drivers have a wealth of experience behind the wheel of a race car, as well as having strong ties to the famous manufacturer.

George, who recently won the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour alongside Jayden Ojeda and Simon Hodges, is also the proprietor of a highly successful Ford dealership with Andrew, while Grey is currently running a Mustang in the Dunlop Super2 Series for Tickford Racing.

Although not racing this weekend, Andrew was pleased to be part of the team debuting the special car.

“The arrival of our Mustang GT4 marks a new era of Ford Performance in Australia, and we are thrilled that Miedecke Motorsport will showcase its capabilities on the track,” Andrew said.

“This car embodies the spirit of performance and passion that defines the Mustang legacy.

“As Ford dealers, we’re also excited about the 60th anniversary celebrations and are looking forward to the seventh-generation Mustang arriving on Australian roads later this year.”

Global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, Mark Rushbrook, believed the popular Mustang’s debut in GT4 racing was a historic moment for the car.

“The Mustang holds a special place in the hearts of racing enthusiasts worldwide, and seeing the GT4 version on Australian tracks is truly a momentous occasion,” Rushbrook said.

“We are proud to be part of the global expansion of Mustang in motorsport.”

In addition to racing, there will be plenty of activations paying tribute to the Mustang, with car club displays, owner parade laps, and special ticket offers exclusively for Mustang owners.

The Monochrome GT4 Australia Series will begin its 2024 season at Race Phillip Island and will join the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, Trico Trans Am, Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia and the Workhorse Radical Cup Australia at the Shannons SpeedSeries event.

The category will have two one-hour races over the course of its opening weekend, with Saturday’s race to wrap up the day’s proceedings before its second race runs on Sunday morning.

Both races will feature as part of the live and free 7plus broadcast.
